The Research Matching Grant Scheme (RMGS) is a major Hong Kong government initiative aimed at diversifying research funding sources and strengthening collaboration between universities and the non-public sector. Under the 2025–2029 round, the scheme matches eligible research donations and grants from non-governmental or non-public sources, encouraging universities and local self-financing degree-awarding institutions to secure private support for research and development (R&D) activities. The RMGS supports research across all academic disciplines, including equipment, technology licenses, patent expenses, research personnel, research facilities, and support for researchers’ and students’ activities.
