The Michigan Space Grant Consortium (MSGC) Research Seed Grant supports early-stage research and development relevant to NASA’s strategic interests. Its focus is aerospace, space science, and Earth system science, while faculty in related science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields may also apply. Research priorities are informed by NASA’s 2022 Strategic Plan and 2025 Science Strategy.
The program supports junior faculty and research scientists, as well as mid-career and senior faculty entering new research areas. Its central goal is to help researchers collect preliminary data needed to pursue extramural support and advance future research efforts. MSGC administers the opportunity and is primarily funded through a NASA Training Grant. Scientific merit and NASA relevance are central selection considerations, with interdisciplinarity and prospects for external funding also considered.
