Description
The German Research Foundation (DFG) supports the development, establishment and organisation of research software infrastructures: technically and organisationally connected services and products that enable software to be created, processed, used, accessed and maintained. The programme aims to improve discipline-specific handling of research software and build a community-based overall infrastructure structure in Germany, supporting long-term discovery, availability and use.
Projects can address one or more complementary tiers. The technical tier covers infrastructure software, services, solutions, environments and processes. The organisational tier addresses the social aspects of developing, expanding and operating infrastructures. The individual tier supports skills development for researchers, research software engineers and infrastructure staff. Priorities include cross-site provision, alignment with scientific needs, collaboration between researchers and infrastructure experts, and access to scientific content and project results that is as open as possible.
