Description
The Residential Sharps Collection Program, administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA), provides financial support to units of local government operating sharps collection stations. The program aims to expand safe disposal options for household sharps (such as needles, syringes, and lancets) generated by private citizens, thereby reducing risks to public health, sanitation workers, and the environment. Funding is provided through the Illinois Solid Waste Management Fund and covers costs related to collection, storage, proper disposal, advertising, educational materials, collection containers, and necessary mobilization/disposal fees.
