Description
The Resisting Illiberalism Fund, supported by the Smith Family Foundation and the Rising Tide Foundation, is designed to help Atlas Network partners worldwide counter the rise of authoritarianism and illiberal statist sentiment. The fund supports projects that protect civil and economic rights, particularly in environments where these values are under threat. Competitive proposals include educational initiatives and awareness campaigns that use sophisticated, far-reaching strategies to resist illiberal policies and ideas, such as:
- Constitutional reforms increasing state control over media, elections, or courts
- Policies undermining judicial independence
- Weakening of independent authorities
- Use of tax authorities to target political opponents
- Economic nationalism and anti-globalization rhetoric
- Propaganda scapegoating minorities
Grantees may be asked to participate in collaborative workshops and present their work at Atlas Network events.
