    Description

The Rhode Island Department of Health Tobacco Control Program (RITCP) funds short-term projects that reduce community access to menthol and other flavored tobacco and nicotine products. The opportunity focuses on Providence-area populations experiencing menthol-related health disparities, including African immigrants, African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, other communities of color, and communities of low economic status.

Awardees will work with Oasis International Inc. and The Center for Black Health & Equity on culturally appropriate education, community conversations, cessation-resource promotion, and strategies supporting tobacco- and nicotine-free living. Priorities include policy, environmental, and systems change, data collection, improved enforcement, and public education. The program seeks greater community engagement, awareness of tobacco-industry marketing and product harms, use of cessation services, and equitable adoption and enforcement of policies prohibiting flavored-product sales.
