The Royal Microscopical Society (RMS) offers Virtual Bursaries to help members pay registration fees for online conferences and workshops where they will present work involving microscopy. The scheme uses the same eligibility criteria as RMS Standard Travel Bursaries, but supports virtual attendance rather than travel. It is aimed at early career researchers, normally within 12 years of graduating, and people employed in microscopy or cytometry support roles.
RMS Council established a special fund during the COVID-19 pandemic to help members continue participating in scientific events, including those whose workplaces or institutions restricted payment for online attendance. The bursaries support the presentation and exchange of microscopy research. Where an award does not cover the full registration fee, RMS intends it to help secure additional support from elsewhere.
