The Florida Ornithological Society’s William B. and Mary J. Robertson Fellowship Award supports the study and conservation of wildlife, habitat, and ecosystems in Florida and the Caribbean. Its Caribbean scope follows the area covered in A Guide to the Birds of the West Indies by Raffaele et al. (2003). Undergraduate through PhD students are especially encouraged to apply; postdoctoral scientists and nonprofit organizations or their representatives may also be considered.
Past supported research has addressed bird genetics, taxonomy, population size, habitat requirements, survival, and the effects of free-roaming domestic cats on birds. The fellowship honors William B. Robertson, a founding member and first president of the society, and Mary J. Robertson, his collaborator on Sooty Tern research.
