Description
The Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education (TSF) and The Society of Thoracic Surgeons created this educational award with support from Intuitive Inc. It supports general thoracic surgeons and final-year cardiothoracic surgery residents who have overcome significant adversity, demonstrate financial need, or serve rural or medically underserved communities. The goal is to help participants create and grow a robotic general thoracic surgical practice.
The program combines technology instruction, simulation, procedure-video review, practical and advanced training, and mentorship from an established robotic general thoracic surgeon. Recipients and their surgical assistants observe cases at the mentor’s institution, followed by a mentor visit for case proctoring at the recipient’s institution. The award covers eligible training-related travel and hotel costs, while Intuitive donates course and laboratory fees.
