The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) established its Grant Program in 1986 to provide financial and logistical support for conservation projects. The program pairs contributions from members, volunteers, and donors with partner resources to conserve elk, other wildlife, their habitat, and hunting heritage. It supports work across the United States, emphasizing collaboration and lasting conservation outcomes.
Supported activities include prescribed burning, forest thinning, invasive plant treatment, wildlife water development, big game management, and scientific research. Research priorities encompass migration and connectivity, critical habitat and nutrition, population trajectories, population challenges, and management solutions. Land conservation projects protect important range and migration corridors while expanding public access. Hunting heritage funding supports outdoor skills, conservation education, outreach, and mentored hunts.
