ROOTS Zambia is a European Commission call supporting inclusive and accountable governance through stronger civil society organisations (CSOs) and meaningful community participation in policy reform, investment, transparency and accountability processes. It focuses on four strategic areas linked to Global Gateway: critical raw materials, energy and a just climate transition, sustainable transport and connectivity, and sustainable agriculture and agro-industrialisation.
Lot 1 supports civic space, organisational capacity, community-led safeguards and coordinated, evidence-based advocacy. Lot 2 focuses on extractive-sector governance, mining revenue accountability and the representation of mining-affected communities. Supported work can include community monitoring, policy dialogue, applied research, public communication and coalition-building. Involvement of academia, research institutions and universities is encouraged, with evidence generation feeding into advocacy and governance processes.
