Description
The Fulbright Roving Scholar in American Studies award supports experienced American educators as traveling specialists in U.S. studies and pedagogy in English and the humanities. Scholars visit lower secondary schools (ages 14–16), upper secondary schools (ages 16–19), teacher-training programs, and educator conferences. Lessons and workshops address American history, culture, society, and contemporary teaching methods, reflecting scholars’ specialties, students’ interests, and Norwegian curricular aims.
The program gives Norwegian teachers opportunities to exchange ideas with American colleagues while helping students practice English and discuss their views of the United States. Oslo-based scholars travel nationwide; the Østfold scholar works regionally from Halden and contributes to teacher education at Østfold University College. All scholars are affiliated with the Norwegian Center for Foreign Languages in Education. The U.S.-Norway Fulbright Foundation supports their work within Fulbright’s mission of international understanding and cooperation.
