The Bunnell Lewis Research Fund is part of the Royal Archaeological Institute’s annual support for archaeological research. It has a particular preference for projects involving the excavation and exploration of Roman sites. Supported work can include archaeological fieldwork and survey, excavation and post-excavation research, architectural recording and analysis, and artefact and art-historical research.
The Institute particularly encourages small projects and participation by part-time and amateur archaeologists, architectural historians and historians. Preference normally goes to projects relating to, and undertaken within, the British Isles with significant part-time, amateur and volunteer involvement. All projects must include outreach or information provision to the wider public. The Institute’s Research Committee considers applications each winter, assessing research value, methodology, feasibility, participation and dissemination.
