The George Foreman Tribute to Lyndon B. Johnson Scholarship is offered by the RTDNA Foundation, the educational arm of the Radio Television Digital News Association. It provides financial support to further a young journalist’s education and is intended for University of Texas at Austin students pursuing careers in radio, television, or digital journalism.
The scholarship reflects Foreman’s gratitude to President Lyndon Johnson and Foundation founder Barney Oldfield. Foreman credited Johnson’s Job Corps with changing his life; through the program, he met Oldfield, who became his mentor. In addition to educational funding, the recipient is invited to Washington, D.C., for the Foundation’s First Amendment Awards, a day of professional-development training, and networking with industry leaders.
