Description
The Minnesota Department of Health’s Office of Rural Health and Primary Care administers this legislatively created program for existing, not-for-profit family medicine residency programs in rural Minnesota. It supports current residency positions and gives priority to proposed new positions.
The program responds to a shortage of primary care physicians outside Minnesota’s seven-county metropolitan area. By supporting rural-focused training and practice opportunities, it aims to help residents build experience and community connections that encourage them to remain in rural practice after graduation.
