Description
The Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT) Public Transportation Division administers the Rural Transit Assistance Program with support from the Federal Transit Administration’s 5311(b)(3) program. It helps transportation operators in non-urbanized areas build knowledge and address operational needs through training, technical assistance, and other support services.
The program offers scholarships for training courses, workshops, and conferences; on-site or virtual presentations; and technical assistance. Rural and tribal agencies can request peer reviews of an entire agency or a specific concern, such as safety, maintenance, or management. WSDOT also provides webinars and other training directly. Every two years, competitive funding supports training providers and developers producing courses, materials, or equipment applicable to rural and tribal transportation providers.
