The International Coral Reef Society (ICRS) established the Ruth Gates Fellowship in memory of its former president, Dr. Ruth Gates, who died in 2018 while in office. It supports research and development in areas in which she was active, particularly work on reef corals and coral reefs that addresses solution-oriented topics relevant to the coral reef crisis.
The fellowship supports the practical costs of conducting research and asks applicants to demonstrate the value of their proposed work to the reef-science and management community. Proposals addressing diversity and inclusion within the coral reef research community are especially welcome. Separate Junior and Senior fellowships support postgraduate students and early-career postdoctoral researchers, respectively.
