The Society of American Archivists Foundation’s Catalyst Grant Program, formerly the Strategic Grant Fund, supports complex, carefully planned archival initiatives. Supported work includes processing, cataloging, and digitizing collections, particularly projects that can serve as models for other archives or contribute to best practices. The program also supports creating or developing guidelines, including preliminary research and studies that advance professional standards and methodologies.
Priority goes to projects that clearly advance SAA strategic goals, align with the Foundation’s mission, vision, and core values, and benefit the archival profession at large. Unlike the Foundation’s Opportunity Grant Fund, which addresses unanticipated opportunities, Catalyst Grants support planned initiatives. Previously funded work includes reparative description, artificial intelligence and machine learning in archival access, and preservation workshops for literary organizations serving writers of color.
