Description
The SAEM Foundation and ED Benchmarking Alliance (EDBA) support research that improves understanding of how emergency department operations and processes influence patient outcomes. Projects should use EDs or patients as units of observation, with operational performance measures as outcomes of interest. Innovation in clinical operations is encouraged, including new workflows with primary operational outcomes aligned with EDBA performance measures. Studies focused solely on the efficacy of individual patient interventions or therapies are outside this grant’s scope.
The award also develops recipients’ research experience, reputation, and careers toward independent emergency medicine funding. Applicants interested in administrative leadership or ED operations and care-delivery research are especially encouraged. Discussion with EDBA during board meetings offers operational insight and mentorship.
