Description
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) administers the annual Safe Routes to School Grants Program to address school transportation safety needs. Funding supports both non-infrastructure activities, such as education and encouragement programs, and physical improvements to routes serving schools. Infrastructure projects focus primarily on new sidewalks, but can also include school crossings, pavement markings, signage, and bicycle parking.
The grants are part of the broader Safe Routes Utah Program, run through UDOT’s Traffic and Safety Division. That program helps communities encourage students to walk or bike safely to school through route-planning assistance, pedestrian and construction safety assemblies, walking and biking encouragement, crossing guard resources, and middle school curricula.
