    Description

The Safety Intervention Grant (SIG) Program, administered by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC), partners with Ohio employers to purchase equipment and measure its effectiveness in preventing workplace injuries and illnesses. It supports ergonomic, safety, and industrial hygiene equipment addressing hazards associated with a particular task or operation. The goal is to establish safety intervention best practices, rather than fund routine replacements or equipment that only meets minimum OSHA requirements.

BWC safety consultants, ergonomists, and industrial hygienists assess proposed interventions and recommend effective solutions. Review considers the initial risk and the equipment’s potential to reduce it; the equipment’s research value may also be considered. Employers document results through a one-year case study and permit BWC to use intervention data, photos, and videos for education and training.
