Established in 2022, the Society of Architectural Historians’ IDEAS Research Fellowship supports emerging scholars who self-identify as members of groups historically marginalized by SAH and the academy. It nurtures research that challenges existing paradigms, as defined by applicants, and advances previously under-recognized or unsupported directions in architectural history as researched, thought, or applied. The fellowship forms part of SAH’s effort to reckon with past injustices and redress foundational structural inequities.
Alongside research funding, the program builds mentored cohorts. Fellows are paired with senior colleagues from the SAH community for one year and participate in guided peer interaction. SAH prioritizes research affected by inequities connected to scholars’ backgrounds or areas of inquiry not yet well supported in architectural history.
