Description
The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food’s Salinity Control Program brings together the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, agricultural producers, the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Program Forum, and mining companies that discharge salts into the Colorado River Basin. Its purpose is to reduce the amount of salt entering the basin through irrigation improvements.
Under this arrangement, mining companies discharging more than one ton of salt per day can pay for irrigation systems that reduce salinity while allowing mining production to continue. The department provides information about the program and answers questions about current salinity-control projects.
