Description
The Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) administers grants to restore degraded salmon habitat and protect existing high-quality habitat. The program aims to increase habitat quantity, health, and biological productivity, supporting recovery of salmon and steelhead. Eligible work includes acquiring land, perpetual conservation easements, or water rights; improving fish passage; restoring floodplains, riparian areas, estuaries, and nearshore habitat; and preparing designs, assessments, and inventories.
Puget Sound Acquisition and Restoration (PSAR) is jointly managed with the Puget Sound Partnership to accelerate implementation of the Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Plan. Salmon Recovery and PSAR generally share requirements and operate through watershed-based lead entities, regional recovery organizations, and technical review. Projects must address regional recovery plans or lead entity strategies. The Salmon Recovery Funding Board (SRFB) approves grants.
