The San Diego Shell Club offers this research stipend through the Western Society of Malacologists (WSM) to support graduate students and postdoctoral staff studying mollusks. It funds field and laboratory research on freshwater, terrestrial, marine, and fossil material, including native and introduced taxa in western North America.
The program also supports formal research visits to university-based and natural history museum collections, domestically or internationally. Proposals may include more than one museum or collection, though visits to nearby collections are not prioritized. Support can cover supplies, travel, and access to permanent equipment. WSM’s Academic Grants Committee evaluates applications, and recipients share their work with both WSM and the San Diego Shell Club.
