The Society for Biopsychosocial Science and Medicine (SBSM) offers this travel award to bring neuroscience trainees to its Annual Meeting and connect them with the recipient of the Paul D. MacLean Award for Outstanding Neuroscience Research in Psychosomatic Medicine. The award was created to support two trainees, with direct assistance for meeting participation rather than a separate research project.
The scientific focus is research advancing Paul MacLean’s legacy by linking direct measures of brain function to medical outcomes, or to mediating variables directly linked to those outcomes. Selection emphasizes outstanding research or research potential. Past recipients have investigated neural responses to social evaluation and pain, inflammation and brain function, and relationships among cardiovascular measures, brain structure, and cognition.
