Description
The South Carolina Arts Commission’s School Arts Support Grants help schools acquire resources and services that address student outcomes through innovative arts practices. The program supports arts as curriculum, arts-enhanced curriculum, and arts-integrated curriculum as valid approaches to increasing classroom engagement. Funding must supplement—not replace—the school’s existing arts budget.
Supported work includes resources for teaching Visual and Performing Arts Standards, arts-rich lessons, artist and Wolf Trap residencies, professional learning, and creative arts therapy. Residencies must include peer-to-peer training that strengthens teachers’ skills and their ability to teach those skills in future years. The program gives special consideration to projects located in or serving Opportunity Initiative Counties and may prioritize schools with student populations above 70% low-income.
