Description
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs (OHSJP) administers state funding for certified law enforcement officers serving as school resource officers (SROs). The program supports school districts that otherwise lack adequate resources to hire their own officers, with awards made to their implementing law enforcement partners. Funding supports full-time staffing, employer contributions, and documented needs for law enforcement equipment and training.
The SFY 2026–2027 open solicitation addresses new positions that were not requested through the annual solicitation. The annual solicitation supports continued funding for existing positions as well as new positions, training, and replacement equipment. Funding recommendations prioritize districts with limited resources and consider demonstrated need, allowable costs, and grant performance.
