Description
The Schwartz Research Fund, administered through Cornell’s Office of Faculty Development and Diversity, supports creative life sciences research by faculty who advance the university’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. It provides seed money for pilot experiments that generate novel preliminary data or open significant new lines of inquiry, with the goal of supporting subsequent applications for major funding such as NIH-R01, NSF, or equivalent multi-year support.
One award supports a pre-tenure assistant professor, and a second supports an associate professor pursuing an innovative research direction or seeking bridge support to improve the possibility of securing major funding. Faculty in traditional life science disciplines and those outside these departments may apply, provided they clearly explain the proposal’s relevance to their research and likely impact on the life sciences.
