Summary: A two-year fellowship developing mid-career faculty members’ skills in science communication, public policy, and biomedical research advocacy.
Key Information: Applicants must be current AAA members with at least two years of continuous membership and 10–20 years since their highest degree.
The American Association for Anatomy (AAA) runs this two-year fellowship for mid-career faculty interested in science policy and advocacy. It prepares future science leaders to understand policy issues pertinent to the association and engage in advocacy at federal, state, and local levels. Fellows develop public-facing communication skills through the AAA Science Communication Boot Camp.
The program combines mentorship, policy writing, and direct advocacy. Fellows work with AAA’s representative on the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) Science Policy Committee, help prepare annual policy reports, and attend FASEB Capitol Hill Day in both years. They also develop white papers or policy briefs with local mentors and attend AAA’s annual meeting in Year 2.
