Description
The Australian Academy of Science’s annual Diversity and Inclusion Grants reduce practical barriers to attending Science at the Shine Dome, the Academy’s flagship science event in Canberra. Supported by the University of Queensland, the program helps participants who need additional assistance because of caring responsibilities, accessibility requirements or mobility-related support.
Funding supports arrangements that enable attendance, including paid childcare and dependent care, travel for an accompanying support person, family-style accommodation and professional accessibility services. Examples include Auslan interpreting, disability support work and specialised transport. Other reasonable and necessary participation costs may be considered with Academy approval. The program supports more equitable and inclusive event participation rather than research projects or ordinary attendance expenses.
