The Athey Science Education and Outreach grant, administered by the Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS), supports the development and distribution of science education materials, supplies, and programming serving elementary and secondary schools in Kentucky. Projects may also create toolkits of materials and activities for schools or teachers. Supported work can span the physical, biological, behavioral, and engineering sciences.
The program emphasizes innovation, educational quality, and a problem-based focus, together with feasibility and cost-effectiveness. Past projects have addressed watershed science, high school nanotechnology, anatomical heart models for mobile STEM outreach, geography, neuroscience, and elementary astronomy. Where practicable, KAS will host project materials and resources online and make them freely available to Kentucky teachers.
