The Science History Institute’s 2027–2029 curatorial fellowship is a two-year staff position with Distillations, its magazine publishing long-form narrative nonfiction about the history of the chemical and life sciences. Intended for people pursuing public history or curatorial careers outside academia, the fellowship combines magazine production with professional development, portfolio-building, networking, and mentorship.
The fellow joins a two-person editorial team to commission and develop articles from staff and freelance writers, manage production timelines and workflows, research and edit illustrative art, and execute story layout and design. They also collaborate with the Institute’s communications team on promotion and help plan the magazine’s transition from a digital publication with an annual “Best Of” print edition to a quarterly, print-first publication. The work builds museum and library experience while advancing the Institute’s strategic goals.
