    Description

The Science History Institute’s Beckman Center offers short-term fellowships for scholars and researchers pursuing independent projects grounded in the Institute’s collections. The program supports one to four months of research in Philadelphia, with a stipend intended to help defray travel, accommodation, and living expenses. Researchers at any career stage and with any educational credentials may apply.

The collections focus on the history of chemistry, chemical engineering, and the modern life sciences, spanning the 15th century to the present. Projects need not identify with those disciplines: previous fellows have worked in environmental, business, labor, and art history, as well as science and technology studies. The central consideration is how the research uses the collections, including rare books, archives, oral histories, scientific instruments, artifacts, fine art, and modern primary and secondary sources.
