Funding Amounts: Impact: up to $500,000 for investigators or $200,000 for postdocs over 2–3 years; Data Discovery: up to $75,000; Consortium: up to $1,500,000
Summary: Supports research to characterize misophonia, develop objective diagnostic methods, and assess interventions in human, animal, or other relevant models.
Key Information: Grantees must make research results available open access and share findings within 18 months of project completion.
The Misophonia Research Fund (MRF), an initiative of the REAM Foundation, supports research to better understand misophonia, characterize its symptoms and associated impairments, and assess treatment strategies. Its three mechanisms—Research Impact, Data Discovery, and Research Consortium Awards—support investigators, postdoctoral researchers, and, through Data Discovery Awards, graduate-level or medical students. Proposals may use human, animal, or other relevant research models.
MRF prioritizes collaboration across audiology, psychology, and neuroscience, along with data sharing and consensus criteria that enable comparisons across studies. Research priorities include how misophonia develops, pediatric and adolescent studies, neurological structure and activity, and longitudinal research. The fund also seeks rapid, non-invasive, objective diagnostic tools and greater rigor in clinical research through randomized controlled trials, comparative efficacy studies, and new treatment approaches.
