Description
The Simons Foundation’s Mathematics & Physical Sciences division offers this award to support the creation of new, long-term faculty-level career paths for researchers dedicated to developing and maintaining essential scientific software. The program funds new research faculty positions in mathematics, astronomy, or theoretical physics departments at Ph.D.-granting U.S. institutions. Recipients are expected to have demonstrated leadership in scientific software development, with the goal of advancing the sustainability and impact of open-source software tools that underpin scientific research. The award aims to address the lack of stable academic career tracks for scientific software experts and to foster a vibrant, inclusive academic software community.
