Description
The Simons Foundation’s Scientific Software Research Faculty (SSRF) Award supports new research professor positions in existing academic departments for researchers with a strong record of leadership in scientific software development. The program focuses on developing and maintaining broadly applicable software infrastructure that enables scientific data analysis, simulations, automation and visualization.
The award aims to establish a lasting faculty-level career path for scientific software experts whose opportunities beyond postdoctoral positions are limited. It connects software research with long-term academic appointments rather than positions dependent on repeatedly securing external grants. Supported positions may carry titles such as clinical professor, professor of practice or research professor, depending on the university.
