Description
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources offers annual Scrap Tire Surface Material Grants to develop markets for Missouri-generated scrap tires. Administered with assistance from the department’s Waste Management Program, the grants fund the cost, delivery and vendor installation of recycled-tire materials. The program is supported by Missouri’s 50-cent fee on retail sales of new tires, reauthorized in 2019; up to 45% of fee revenues may be distributed for scrap tire market-development grants.
Two funding categories support different uses. Playground grants cover playground mats and surfaces only. Non-playground grants support running tracks, walking trails, equine or livestock stalls and riding areas, benches, picnic tables, and similar surfacing projects or molded products. Supported surface materials include mats, tiles and pour-in-place products.
