Sponsored by NOAA’s National Sea Grant College Program, the Knauss Fellowship gives graduate students an educational and professional experience in national policy affecting ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources. Fellows spend 12 months with hosts in legislative or executive branch offices in the Washington, D.C. area. Virginia Sea Grant is the state program for students earning their degrees at Virginia institutions.
The fellowship is an extension of a student’s education, not funding for a defined research project. It connects fellows’ interests and experience with federal policymaking and public service. The program is nonpartisan; fellows may work in offices regardless of party or administration.
