Description
The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) administers this grant with funding it receives annually from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under Section 319(h) of the Clean Water Act. It supports organizations implementing approved watershed-based plans to prevent, control, or reduce nonpoint source pollution—pollutants carried into waterways by rainfall or irrigation runoff.
Projects implement best management practices (BMPs) intended to reduce pollutant loads and produce measurable water quality improvements. Examples include failing septic system repairs, streambank restoration, pasture and cropland management, stormwater improvements, and conservation easements. A project may implement all or part of an approved plan.
