Description
The Section 5311 Rural Area Program supports public transportation and mobility for people living in rural Nevada, including transportation to or from rural areas. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) administers Federal Transit Administration (FTA) formula funding and suballocates it to eligible recipients. The program supports operating costs, preventive maintenance, planning specifically addressing rural transportation needs, Job Access and Reverse Commute projects, and project and state administration.
The program aims to maintain and expand rural transportation services, improving access to health care, shopping, education, employment, public services, and recreation. NDOT prepares an annual Program of Projects to distribute funds fairly and equitably across the state and maximize coordination with transportation services supported by other sources.
