This grant, titled SCALEUP Ready, supports pre-commercial scaling projects to translate innovative energy R&D into commercially viable technologies.
Funder: Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy
Due Dates: September 29, 2029 (Current closing date; applications accepted continuously until amended)
Funding Amounts: $5 million–$20 million federal share per award for approximately 36 months; approximately $50 million per fiscal year
Summary: SCALEUP Ready supports pre-commercial scaling and pre-pilot projects for promising energy technologies previously funded by ARPA-E.
Key Information: Applicants must control qualifying ARPA-E-funded inventions or software and apply with a team, not as standalone applicants.
SCALEUP Ready is administered by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). It supports high-risk, potentially disruptive energy technologies whose proof-of-concept challenges were largely addressed through an earlier ARPA-E award. The program targets the technical and commercial barriers that can prevent promising technologies from progressing toward real-world adoption.
Projects translate bench-scale performance into commercially scalable technologies, integrate technologies into broader systems, generate extended performance data, and validate manufacturability and reliability. Applicants should have an early-stage developmental prototype demonstrating functionality in a controlled environment. Projects must explain a viable path to market, how scaling will unlock further investment, and anticipated impacts addressing ARPA-E’s statutory goals, including substantial U.S. manufacturing of resulting technologies.
