The Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA) offers this grant through its Wellness, Arts, and the Military (WAM) program. It gives military-connected individuals time and resources to pursue an art practice, whether they are beginning something new or returning to a long-standing interest. Professional artist status is not required.
WAM seeks to expand opportunities for self-expression, connection, discovery, and personal growth among service members, Veterans, and their families. Supported practices include visual and literary arts, dance, music, theatre, media arts, and traditional or folk arts. Applicants describe one main project, how they will carry it out, and how its benefits will connect with their community.
