Description
The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation’s Senior Access Program funds grantee organizations to provide and administer assistance for qualifying senior households throughout Alaska. Its goal is to improve safety and accessibility in existing housing so seniors can remain at home as long and comfortably as possible. Work addresses functional limitations associated with age or disability, including bathroom and kitchen modifications, grab bars, handrails, lifts, ramps, and widened doorways or hallways.
The program uses the state-funded Senior Citizen Housing Development Fund (SCHDF). The 2026 competition also included one-time federal Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) resources for life-safety repairs associated with pandemic-related financial hardship. Grantees must coordinate with other assistance programs to avoid duplicating services and identify appropriate funding sources. Modifications should address immediate needs through cost-effective solutions that support independent living and reduce risk of harm.
