Description
The Samuel H. Kress Senior Fellowships, funded by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, support research on European art before the early 19th century. Fellows conduct full-time research in residence at the National Gallery of Art’s Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts. Scholars in any discipline may apply if their work examines art or artifacts or contributes to the analysis, interpretation, and criticism of visual art or visual culture.
The fellowships provide sustained research time within a scholarly community, with access to the National Gallery’s library and art collection and the research resources of greater Washington. Fellows receive an office in the Gallery’s East Building and participate in lectures, colloquia, and discussions. Applications are considered for an academic year or a single academic term.
