The Florida Department of Health’s Adolescent Health Program administers Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) with federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Family and Youth Services Bureau. The program aims to delay sexual activity, reduce teen births, and increase protective factors among Florida youth ages 10–19 through education, resources, community partnerships, and provider-facilitated activities.
Projects use a positive youth development approach and provide education to youth, parents, and adults with a direct, ongoing influence on youth development. Priorities include expanding services into unserved areas, addressing populations with statistically high teen birth rates, promoting healthy relationships and decision-making, and giving youth opportunities to practice leadership. Funded providers also participate in community meetings, topical training, technical assistance, and program evaluation.
