Description
The Shannon Community Safety Initiative (CSI) is a state-funded competitive grant administered by the Massachusetts Office of Grants and Research (OGR), part of the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. It supports regional, multidisciplinary approaches to gang violence through coordinated prevention, intervention, law enforcement, prosecution, and reentry programs. Its five strategy areas are social intervention, suppression, opportunity provision, organizational change, and community mobilization.
The initiative incorporates the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Comprehensive Gang Model and evidence-based practices. Municipalities lead collaborations with law enforcement, nonprofit community-based organizations, and government agencies. A related research component provides strategic, analytic, and research support through Local Action Research Partners (LARPs) and a Statewide Research Partner (SRP), helping sites assess community needs, identify appropriate youth services, and report program outcomes.
