The Shock Society’s Professional Development Award supports highly qualified underrepresented trainees in attending its Annual Meeting. The competitive award encourages recipients to pursue professional careers in the biomedical sciences through meeting participation, rather than funding a separate research project. It is intended for eligible predoctoral students and research fellows early in their postdoctoral training.
The Society’s Diversity Committee selects recipients based on the scientific merit of their submitted abstracts and candidate statements. Applicants describe their career and research goals, their role in the research presented, and why they deserve the award. This emphasis connects meeting support with trainees’ scientific contributions and professional aspirations. The Shock Society promotes research and education to improve care for victims of trauma, shock, and sepsis.
