Description
Established in 2001, the International Catacomb Society’s Shohet Scholars Grant Program advances founder Estelle Shohet Brettman’s interest in documenting and understanding the cultures and religious customs of the ancient Mediterranean. It supports research from the Hellenistic era to the Early Middle Ages in archaeology, art history, classical studies, history, comparative religions, and related fields. Projects need not focus on Roman catacombs.
The program favors significant, original research that can be completed and reported within a one-year award period. Interdisciplinary work bringing new perspectives to traditional topics is of special interest. A grant may seed a new approach or support a defined expense or phase of a larger project.
