Description
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) administers this program to expand access to safe, high-quality shooting opportunities. It supports improvements to existing public-access ranges and development of new ranges where additional shooting opportunities are needed. Projects may involve firearm or archery ranges, including outdoor safety features, shooting areas, access infrastructure and facilities essential to range operation. Indoor ranges may also qualify when DNR determines they are needed.
The program is competitive. DNR prioritizes public access, safety improvements, documented need for new ranges, proximity to major cities, and ranges that host hunter education or other recruitment and retention programs. Construction of clubhouses and facilities not essential to range operation, as well as ongoing operation and maintenance, is outside the program’s scope.
