Description
The Washington State Department of Ecology funds local governments’ periodic reviews of Shoreline Master Programs (SMPs). Under the Shoreline Management Act, counties, cities, and towns must review their comprehensively updated SMPs every ten years. Grants support those reviews and comprehensive SMP updates undertaken alongside them.
Jurisdictions that complete a periodic review early may propose other shoreline management work, such as a public access plan, technical assistance memos, an assessment of permit effectiveness, or SMP implementation activities. An optional joint review process can combine the required local and state public comment periods.
